Niclas Evestedt
Background
I am currently a Ph.D student at the Division of Automatic Control at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Linköping University.
I did my master's thesis, A State Machine Design for High Level Control of an Autonomous Wheel Loader at Volvo Construction Equipment in Eskilstuna, Sweden, where I, together with a college, developed a control structure for full autonomous operation of the material handling step at an asphalt mill. I received a Master of Science and Engineering degree with a specialisation in Systems and Control from Uppsala University in 2011 and I spent almost two years at Bombardier Transportation working with motor and traction control systems for trains before starting my PhD studies at Linköping University.
Research
My research interests are algorithms for self driving cars and has so far been focused on motion planning for autonomous heavy duty vehicles. I believe practical testing is an important step in algorithm development and my work has been performed in tight collaboration with our industry partners to create full size demonstrations in real vehicles.
