Kristoffer Bergman

Background

I am an industrial PhD student at the Division of Automatic Control, Department of Electrical Engineering, Linköping University, since January 2016. I received my M.Sc degree in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering at Linköping University in 2014. Right after that I started to work at Saab Aeronautics, where I was involved in the development of the avionics system for the Gripen E aircraft. In August 2015, I started to work at the department of Guidance, Navigation and Control at Saab Dynamics, where I got the chance to join WASP (Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program).

Research

My research is focused on developing methods to solve optimal motion planning problems for complex, nonlinear autonomous systems. The methods are developed by combining ideas from automatic control, numerical optimization and robotics. In particular, it is studied how lattice-based motion planning can be tightly combined with direct optimal control. The tight combination ensures that the lattice-based planner provides a feasible motion plan which is highly suitable as warm-start to the optimal control step. The results are illustrated on motion planning problems for trucks with trailers as well as marine vessels.
