Kailai Li

I am a postdoctoral researcher with Division of Automatic Control, Department of Electrical Engineering at Linköping University (LiU) since October 2022. I was a postdoctoral researcher at Intelligent Sensor-Actuator-Systems (ISAS) Lab, Institute for Anthropomatics and Robotics at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany, where I obtained my PhD degree in computer science in 2021. My PhD thesis, On-Manifold Recursive Bayesian Estimation for Directional Domains, was supervised by Uwe D. Hanebeck and Fredrik Gustafsson, and was graded with highest distinction (summa cum laude).

Previously, I received my master's degree in Automation Engineering in 2017 from RWTH Aachen University in Germany including a master's thesis completed at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, and my bachelor's degree in 2014 from Tsinghua University in China.

My major research interests include uncertainty quantification and state estimation, with applications to sensor fusion, robotic perception, and learning dynamical systems. My publications can be found on Google Scholar. I also lead developments of a few open-source sensor fusion systems including LiLi-OM, a cross-hardware (both conventional and solid-state) LiDAR-inertial odometry system.

I am currently the examiner and lecturer in TSRT78 Digital Signal Processing.
