Patrik Axelsson

Background

Patrik Axelsson is a Ph.D. student at the Division of Automatic Control at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Linköping University. He received his M.Sc. in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering (Y) in January 2009 and has been working as a Ph.D. student since. Patrik Axelsson defended his Licentiate Thesis On Sensor Fusion Applied to Industrial Manipulators on December 16, 2011.

Research

Patrik Axelsson's research interests is about sensor fusion and control for industrial manipulators. The main problem has from the beginning been to estimate the position of the end-effector using an accelerometer attached to the end-effector. The result of the estimation problem is published in conference papers, and journal papers, see the publication list and also in his Licentiate Thesis.

After the Licentiate Theses, the research focus for Patrik Axelsson has changed from estimation to control. The main objective is to improve the control performance of the industrial manipulator using different kind of sensors, such as accelerometers, combined with H-infinity robust controllers. The use of estimated quantities has been used together with iterative learning control (ILC), especially the norm-optimal ILC method. The results are presented in his PhD Thesis.

Teaching

Patrik Axelsson has been involved in teaching the basic automatic control for undergraduate student (TSRT03, TSRT12, TSRT19), the advanced course TSRT09 Control Theory and the two project courses TFYY51 Engineering project for first year students, and TSRT10 Control Project Laboratory for fifth year students.
